Family Photo Session Ideas

I’m a firm believer in having family sessions where 10% of the time you’re sitting and smiling at the camera, while the remaining 90% of the time is you spending time with your kids while they explore and play. Kids are not built to sit still for long periods of time. Let them be little, and I’ll take care of the rest.

LET’S GET MOVING

We don’t have to stay at your house for the full session.

If there is time for it and everyone is ready to get out, let’s go for a walk or a bike ride! Even if we don’t have a final destination, just a walk around the block will brighten moods and allow you to interact with your kids in different ways.

Here are some other favorite ideas: Bike rides, scooter rides, running down the street, shoulder rides, playing tag, throwing a ball around, kicking a soccer ball or playing chase.

If it happens to be raining the day of our session, there is nothing stopping us from having some fun inside, too!

do something that they love

I have yet to find a child that doesn’t enjoy playing with bubbles. When in doubt, break out the bubbles. In all seriousness, though, if going for a walk doesn’t sound like fun, there are endless activities you and your kiddos enjoy doing together. We can play with sidewalk chalf, sprinklers, the sandbox, or (my personal fave) read a story. The best part? I’ll just happen to be there with my camera to document it all.

make a mess

Cooking with kiddos can be messy, but it is a lot of fun and always makes for good bonding! The flour spills and messy fingers became a key part in the storytelling for this session, and the end result is always priceless (and delicious).

Making something quick and easy like pancakes or chocolate chip cookies is a great activity that your kids can easily enjoy from start to finish! We can document the mixing, baking, waiting, and the delicious treat at the end of it all.

Susie of Busy Toddler also has some pretty amazing activity ideas involve all sorts of fun experiments, with very little cleanup. :) Think baking soda and vinegar, or bubbles! You can check out her brilliant ideas here: https://busytoddler.com/category/activities/

Have an idea you want to share? I’d love to hear about it in the comments below! If you’re ready to put your ideas into action, you can book your session now and let’s get to planning!
